Condé Nast TRAVELER - USA - August 2010
Killa Bhawan,
Jaisalmer, Rajasthan
In Jaisalmer , a living fortress high above the surrounding small city of the same name, a Killa Bhawan guest might follow local custom and sleep out on the roof, in a well-made colonial bed. Jaisalmer’s magic is magnified by its isolation in the middle of the Indian desert. Known as the Golden City, it was built in the twelfth century of yellow limestone marble and is famous of its palace, which you can see from the terrace, as well as its exquisite havelis (mansions) and seven Jain Temples. Night brings a little wind, a clear desert sky, and the sounds of the city bedding down. Three thousand people live in the fort; in the temples, the worshippers sing and drum, them motor-bikes head home, and by ten all becomes quiet. Life begins again around six with the bells of the temples and first prayers (91-2992-251204; $120-$200). |

Lonely
Planet Review
" Designed by a
Frenchman with a penchant for style and sustainability, Hotel
Killa Bhawan is foxy - a hands-down beauty that respects its
fragile surroundings. Absolute elegance and a unique
atmosphere within the Jaisalmer fort walls make it a
special place to spend your time here. |

characterful hotels in Rajasthan, but the tiny Killa Bhawan
has simple charm that suits it's remote romantic arabian
nights setting in the desert town of Jaisalmer built.
Built into the bastions of the fort, this hotel has glorious
roof terrace covered with indian floor cushions and bolsters,
with the most spectacular view of the town below, the fort and
the desert beyond.

Happily, the best
places to stay in town are sensitive to the fort's distress.
Forget the sprawling five star chains on the outskirts and
pick from a selection of small hotels tucked inside the
betterments. The prettiest is the Killa Bhawan, tel:
(91-2992) 251204, which comprise to converted townhouses built
right into the fort walls, with rooms decorated in vivid shades
of crimson, lime and orange. It's three terraces command what
might be Jaisalmer's finest sunset views when the
ancient bastions take on the color of pure honey and seem to
melt into the desert backdrop. The staff will update you on
the restoration efforts and you won't find anything as
wasteful as a bathtub within their walls. |

Killa Bhawan,
Jaisalmer Nel Forte, 445
Kotri Para. tel.
ogni desiderio in realtà. Unica pecca (ma non poitanto)
è il bagno
in comune. prezzi: 40 dollari per la doppia, e ne vale as pena. |
